Skills to be Learned

Of the skills listed in the skills to be learned post I need improvement in the length of my papers, choosing the right tone, becoming familiar with MLA formatting, fighting off writers' block, and brainstorming properly. I struggle with writers' block in particular. When I write, I always feel like I am saying the wrong thing. Writers' block frustrates me so much I have to give up on the assignment and finish it later. My second biggest problem is MLA formatting. I never grasped the concept of MLA formatting. My teachers would mention it sometimes during their lectures, and even asked us to use it on some of our papers, but I never used it. I also have trouble with deciding the tone I should use in my papers. Usually, I sound too casual on paper, and it irritates me. Another problem I have with writing is brainstorming and revising. I actually never brainstorm, I just pick up my laptop and type whatever comes to mind, then go back and edit a few things to improve it. When I write a paper once I never revise unless I check for spelling or grammatical errors. I am least concerned about lengthening my papers, because I only have this problem when I am unfamiliar with the subject.
